Royal
Selangor Flying Club offers flight training up to the Private Pilot's
Licence (PPL), in accordance with the rules and regulations set by the
Department
of Civil Aviation, Malaysia (DCA). It is recognized throughout
the world, as it is in line with the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority
(UKCAA).
A
basic PPL allows you to fly a single-engine aircraft below 5700 kg (12,500
lbs) Maximum Take-Off Weight (MTOW). You are allowed to carry passengers,
as long as you do not collect a fee from them. However, the cost of
aircraft rental can be shared between you and your passengers.
Applicants
must be at least 17 years of age. There is no maximum age, just as long
as you pass the medical examination. Foreigners
are welcome.
Medical,
SPL & Membership |
Before
you can commence your flight training, you are required to undergo a
medical check-up with any of the DCA approved aviation medical
doctors.
After being issued a medical slip, you may apply for membership at our
club. The final step for commencement is to apply for a Student Pilot's
Licence (SPL) at DCA in Putrajaya.
Training
for the PPL will take about 50 to 55 hours of flying (including both
instructional and solo). Since we are a flying club, and not
a school, the training period varies between students. It all depends
on how much time a student can devote his or her time to flight training.
Typically, the training will take about 8 months. Additionally, you
are required to sit for a theory examination which comprises of five
papers; Aircraft (General), Aviation Law Rules & Procedures, Navigation
& Meteorology, Radio Telephony (Theory), Radio Telephony (Practical),
and Human Performance & Limitations (Private). Our club will hold
Ground School classes to cater for these papers.
