Do I have to pay all RM20,000 or so for the PPL Program
at one go?
Absolutely not. When you join the club, a personal account will be
created. You have to put in some amount in before you can fly, say RM2,000
as starters. Then your account will be deducted as you fly,
or buy equipment or books. If the amount gets too low, you'll be reminded
to 'top-up' your account before you can continue flying. You can take all
the time you want in between.
Where can I get further training to become a full-fledged
professional pilot?
Locally, you can apply at Malaysian
Flying Academy (MFA), located at Melaka airport in Batu Berendam.
There is also a new flying school, Langkawi Aerospace Training Center (LATC).
They provide training up to the Frozen Air Transport Pilot's Licence (ATPL).
Is it possible to become a pilot if I don't have perfect
eye vision?
Yes, as long as you wear correctable lenses (spectacles or contact lenses).
Unfortunately, you are not eligible if you exceed a certain level of colour
deficiency.
I am interested to fly, but I don't stay in the Klang
Valley area.
There are many other flying clubs in Malaysia, such as Johor
Flying Club, Tanjung
Flying Club (Penang), Perak
Aero Club, Kedah Flying Club, ESB
Flying Club (Subang), Elite
Flying Club (Johor Bahru), and FRAS
Flying Club (Johor Bahru), which also provide PPL training.
Can non-members fly?
Yes, we offer trial flights for those who are not yet sure of pursuing the
PPL. Naturally, non-members are not allowed to captain our aircraft, and the
rental rates are higher. Kindly contact
us to make any arrangements.
Do you offer charter flights?
Yes, we term these as 'special flights'. You can fly with one of our instructors
to various destinations around Peninsular Malaysia, some aerodromes not even
accessible by commercial airliners. Or you can simply choose to take a quick
joy flight around KL city and its surrounding towns.
Do you offer training for the Assistant Flying Instructor
course (AFI)?
Yes, we do. It is conducted by one of our experienced ex-Air Force
pilots. Please contact us
for more details.
What are the additional ratings offered that will
extend the privileges of a Private Pilot's Licence?
Assistant Flying Instructor Rating, Night Rating, Multi-Engine Rating
and Instrument Rating.
Can you fly at night?
No, the Malaysian DCA does not allow single-engine navigation flight
at night using Visual Flight Rules. A twin-engine aircraft, however, may do
so by Instrument Flight Rules. However, our club occasionally holds night
flying events where we do circuits at Simpang and local flights around Klang
Valley.
Do you have an Instrument Rated single-engine aircraft?
No, we don't.
Do you do international flights?
Yes, we fly to Singapore (Seletar Airport) quite often, since their government
do not require prior permission. However, we will require a minimum of 3 weeks
prior permission in order to fly into Thailand and Indonesia.
Do you fly to East Malaysia?
No, we usually don't. Using a Cessna 172, the flight from Johor Bahru to Kuching
itself will take about 4 hours, with 3 hours over the water.
How many aerodromes are there in Peninsular Malaysia?
There are almost 40 airports, airstrips and airfields in Peninsular Malaysia,
not counting the unregistered ones in agricultural areas.
Which aerodromes are not accessible by General Aviation
aircraft?
Butterworth, Gong Kedak, Grik, Kluang, Kroh, Kuala Lumpur International and
Muar/Bakri, unless prior permission is obtained from the concerning authorities
(eg. Malaysian Army, Royal Malaysian Air Force, Royal Malaysian Police, etc.).
